Assertive Response: A Powerful Tool

Lesson 1282015An assertive response is a valuable communication tool, especially when dealing with abusive/bullying bosses.  Applying this skill is simple.  State your beliefs utilizing the nominative case pronoun “I”.  These are your beliefs and you have the right to your beliefs. Nobody can  take your beliefs away from you. Another way to apply this skill is by labeling the opinion expressed as if it belongs to the other person.  To do this you simply use the pronoun “you”.  In addition, if appropriate, draw the attention to the other person’s freedom to choose. An example: “I am sorry you choose to think like that.”
